Material Selection for Outdoor Cable Fittings

Material selection should follow the product load, cable interface and exposure conditions. JKTE reviews these requirements when selecting or developing fittings for outdoor fiber networks and power distribution applications.

Engineering polymers

Polymer grade and formulation influence stiffness, impact behavior, moisture response and outdoor durability. For exposed components, specify the operating temperature range and UV requirements rather than relying on a general claim of weather resistance.

Aluminum alloy components

Alloy selection, casting quality and geometry influence mechanical behavior. Confirm the specified alloy, surface condition and relevant tests for clamp bodies, brackets and connection parts.

Steel and stainless steel

Steel grade and protective finish should match the load and corrosion exposure. Stainless steel is not universally immune to corrosion; grade selection and installation conditions matter, particularly near saltwater.

Information needed for selection

  • Cable or conductor dimensions and jacket type where relevant.
  • Required load and installation arrangement.
  • Temperature range, coastal exposure and other site conditions.
  • Material restrictions, drawings and required test reports.

Verify the finished assembly

Material data alone does not establish the performance of a complete clamp. Review the fitting design, cable compatibility and applicable test results as part of the selection process.
