Tension clamp or suspension clamp?
Choose a tension or strain clamp when the design calls for an anchoring point. Choose a suspension clamp for intermediate cable support within its permitted loading and line-angle limits. Whether the clamp grips a messenger or the cable bundle depends on the particular system and model.
- Cable arrangement: conductor count, cross-section and insulation construction.
- Supporting member: insulated messenger, bare messenger or self-supporting bundle, as applicable.
- Mechanical duty: required load, span and permitted line angle.
- Mounting arrangement: bracket or hook interface, connection dimensions and clearance.
- Project requirements: environmental exposure, installation instructions and any required test documentation.
Common applications
Typical applications include pole-mounted distribution lines, service connections and cable termination points. Select the entire clamp and mounting assembly against the network design. A suspension clamp should not be substituted for a dead-end anchor solely because the cable fits inside it.
